MSN China has initiated an MSN Messenger campaign allowing Chinese netizens to express their “prayers and blessings” toward the “Wenchuan earthquake disaster area” by changing their MSN signatures to display a rainbow. This campaign follows in the footsteps of the recent “(L) China” MSN and QQ IM campaign. For every MSN users who add msn-rainbow to their nickname, MSN-China will donate 0.2 yuan to the victims of Sichuan earthquake. It might seem little but every important.

According to MSN, the rainbow represents hope and a good things to come: “We (MSN) believe that there is always a rainbow after the wind and rain.”

Participation in the campaign only requires adding an “(R)” before your MSN Messenger screen-name.

Today, my friend ask me whether mobile phone is the future for newspaper, because mobile also could used to surf Internet, people could review news headline and the whole article frequently. Newspaper may also play some kinds role. However, mobile would be brief way to get news.

That makes me think about evolution of mobile phone. When I was a child, mobile in China did not popular, only rich people bought it. At that time, the mobile is very cumbersome, and function was limited. The mobile just was a phone.

Compare with my mobile, it turns to a small Internet. Check weather, review news, chat with friend, download music, game and videos, all of the basic thing which we could do in computer can also be done in our mobile. meanwhile, it combines function of camera, DV. It makes our life becomes to portable than we have ever been.

However, I could not say that mobile can instead of, such as, newspapers. Newspapers hoping to evolve into local and international information. Although mobile reveal those information quickly. because of technology issue, surf Internet through mobile is not very fast, and people can not review news in any time and any place with reality situation.

Generally, mobile Internet is worthy of praise and expect. What is next in mobile Internet and mobile technology?

The quake, with a magnitude of 7.8, struck close to densely populated areas of Wenchuan in Sichuan province county. With the newest report, about 13,ooo people in the area have been killed by the 7.8-magnitude quake.

My parents live in a county of Sichuan province. It is only 200 km far from Wenchuan county. I try to contact with them in time. However, I could not, because of the breakage of earthquake. All of Lines of Communication are destroyed. Thanks for QQ, the most popular online chat software in China. It is the only one way which could still be used around Sichuan province after the quake. It is the first time which I heartfelt thank the new technology. Lots of people use it to connect their family and friends. They also use internet to get new infor about fare of succor. At this time, for me, I could appreciate QQ which help me to be concerned about my parents from Australia without hesitation.

It is time to start with personal online documentary. I have lots of ideas. However, how to organize them? Or how should I choose the most interesting points? Dean suggested that we should first sketch out our site on a site map. It is useful. But I think it is not enough. Site map would be useful after we have clear idea about the content. So, which one should be the first step?

The Japanese government will propose this week a plan to charge copyright royalties on sales of iPods and other portable digital music players, as well as on digital hard disk recorders, a major daily newspaper reported Tuesday.

The Agency of Cultural Affairs has not yet decided the amount of the fee, but it would likely be around 100 yen (95 cents) per device for an annual total about 1 billion yen (about $9.5 million), according to the Asahi Shimbun. The proceeds would go to recording companies, songwriters and artists.

Older devices, such as minidisk and DVD recorders, are already subject to a copyright fee.

Representatives for the agency and Apple Japan Inc. could not be reached for comment, as offices were closed Tuesday for a national holiday.

Despite an aggressive push by the Japanese recording industry, a similar proposal to impose an “iPod tax” fell apart in December 2005 after a government committee failed to reach consensus on the issue.

Electronics makers are expected to mount strong opposition to the new levy, as they did on the earlier proposal.

The inclusion of hard disk recorders in the proposal comes less than a month before the start of new digital content protection rules in Japan. Under the “Dubbing 10″ standard, Japanese consumers will be able to make up to nine copies of a recorded digital TV broadcast.

2006, Standard of KTV Copyright Fee is discussed in China, through the discussion, people claims that unified national KTV copyright fee is unreasonable.2008 Chinese government focuses on beat infringe copyright on Internet. Copyright issue has become to a controversial discussion recently. Does the copyright limit the video maker’s work? It is a problem for me. When I make a film, the idea should be created with myself, and I always try use copyright free materials. However, if I could not find free materials, what should I do? Could I use other’s story for reference?

I find a definition about social software. Hope it is useful to understand it.  I summary some points which interesting for me. Here is the connection to view whole text.

Social software: software that supports group communications, includes everything from the simple CC: line in email to vast 3D game worlds like EverQuest, and it can be as undirected as a chat room, or as task-oriented as a wiki (a collaborative workspace). Because there are so many patterns of group interaction, social software is a much larger category than things like groupware or online communities — though it includes those things, not all group communication is business-focused or communal. One of the few commonalities in this big category is that social software is unique to the internet in a way that software for broadcast or personal communications are not.

The thing that makes social software behave differently than other communications tools is that groups are entities in their own right. A group of people interacting with one another will exhibit behaviors that cannot be predicted by examining the individuals in isolation, peculiarly social effects like flaming and trolling or concerns about trust and reputation. This means that designing software for group-as-user is a problem that can’t be attacked in the same way as designing a word processor or a graphics tool.

Social interaction creates a tension between the individual and the group. This is true of all social interaction, not just online. Consider, from your own life, that moment where you become bored with a dinner party or other gathering. You lose interest in the event, and then, having decided it is not for you, a remarkable thing happens: you don’t leave. For whatever reason, usually having to do with not wanting to be rude, your dedication to group norms overrides your particular boredom or frustration. This kind of tension between personal goals and group norms arises at some point in most groups.

The first idea for my documentary is to make a web page about a South Korean musical band-Shinahwa. However, is it a community? What is it own principles of working? I think the online documentary is based on the communication between the community and me. How could I communicate with the group? So I think I need to think more about what community mean, and how to organize my web page.

A community is a group of interacting organisms sharing an environment. The word community is derived from the Latin communitas (meaning the same), which is in turn derived from communis, which means “common, public, shared by all or many”. In human communities, intent, belief, resources, preferences, needs, risks and a number of other conditions may be present and common. It has been defined as a group of interacting people living in a common location. –from Wikipedia

If I make a web page about the musical band, I think it may not represent a community, because I do not understand the band very well. I could make the web page from the point of view of a fan. However, that is not about a community. I still need to think about my online documentary.
